Parque Katalapi is recognized as an Area of Importance for Bat Conservation

The Latin American and Caribbean Network for Bat Conservation (RELCOM), after reviewing the background information presented by the Bat Conservation Program of Chile, has certified that it recognizes the Parque Katalapi Nature Sanctuary as an AICOM (Area of Importance for Bat Conservation). The Parque Katalapi Nature Sanctuary has been registered with RELCOM under the number A-Ch-009 as of November 30, 2022. Dante Lobos Ovalle, Marcelo Mayorga, Clemente Beltrán, Juan Luis Allendes, Jocsan Herrera, Melissa Riveros, and Annia Rodríguez-San Pedro, after conducting field studies at Katalapi, submitted the proposal to RELCOM.

The Parque Katalapi Foundation and the Bat Conservation Program of Chile (PCMCh) maintain a long-term bat monitoring program at the Parque Katalapi Nature Sanctuary, in which the diversity and seasonal habitat use of the different bat species in the sanctuary are evaluated.
